| Summary: | The West
Beach Oil Pool was discovered in 1976 by ARCO’s West Beach
No. 3 well, which encountered approximately 12 feet of
hydrocarbon bearing sand in the Kuparuk Formation ("Kuparuk")
that tested at a rate of 2.4 MMCFD of gas and 208 B/D of
condensate. West Beach No. 4, drilled approximately
1.2 miles east of West Beach No. 3 in 1991, penetrated
199' of oil column in the Kuparuk. Following fracture stimulation,
the well tested 2,459 barrels of oil with a minor amount
of water. No oil-water or gas-oil contact was encountered
in either well. Three dimensional seismic data and
subsurface well data support an interpretation that wells
WB#3B and WB#4 penetrated a single fault block, which appears
to be in partial fault contact with the Pt McIntyre oil
accumulation to the north and with the Lisburne Oil Pool
to the south. Reported reservoir are 12.1% to 25.8% porosity,
25 to 189 millidarcies permeability, and 35% to 41% water
saturation. Volumetric estimates range between 12
and 65 MMB oil in place and 10 to 56 BCF gas originally
in place. Regular production from the pool began
from a single well in April 1993, and quickly peaked at
an average daily rate of 4,033 barrels of oil per day in
July 1993. By July of 1997, oil production had dropped
to about 1,000 barrels per day. Two additional wells
were brought on line in the spring and summer of 1999. Oil
production climbed to 3,426 barrels per day by August 1999,
but then declined rapidly to less than 1,000 barrels per
day by July 2000. The last recorded month of production
was August 2004, which averaged 48 barrels of oil and 815
MCF of gas per day.
